NAVAL RESEARCH LAB CONTRACT GOES TO THINKING MACHINES…

Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Thinking Machines Corp has won a $16m three-year contract with the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington to deliver hardware, upgrades and services: the contract includes an initial $6m upgrade of the Laboratory’s existing CM-5 massively parallel system with SuperSparc nodes and $3.4m in additional equipment; the balance will be for hardware upgrades over the next three years, the company said.
