NATWEST PLACES ORDER WITH TANDEM UK

Tandem Computers Ltd of Northolt, Middlesex, the UK subsidiary of Tandem Computers Inc of Cupertino, California, has clinched two contracts worth UKP4m deal to supply the National Westminster Bank with electronic funds transfer at Point-of-sale and Swift II applications: under the bigger of the two deals Tandem will supply a seven-processor VLX mini running CAP Group Plc’s Base24 funds transfer software to be used by National Westminster in the national Eftpos scheme, and a four processor VLX system will be used to handle Swift international payments running Data Architects Inc’ Bess Bank Electronic Support System software Data Architects is of course the company that CAP’s arch-rival Logica Plc is bidding to take over (CI No 881).
