NATSEMI IS NOT DEVELOPING A RISC PROCESSOR

By CBR Staff Writer

National Semiconductor Corp has denied reports that it is developing a RISC processor: Hans Rohrer, director of European microprocessor activities, was said by the Financial Times to have revealed plans for the new chip at a press briefing the other day (CI No 917), but the company says it is not developing any such product, and what Rohrer actually said was that the RISC elements already included in its NS32532 chip would be perpetuated in future product developments, which would remain fully compatible with existing products.
