NATIONAL SEMICONDUCTOR TO CEASE MANUFACTURING AT MAYNARD

National Semiconductor Corp will be taking a $15m pre-tax charge with its third quarter figures for the period to March – but for once it is nothing to do with chips: the company plans to cease manufacturing at its Datachecker point-of-sale systems base in Maynard, Massachusetts, laying off 250 of the 400 people that it employs there.
