Claiming it to be the fastest raster graphics processor in the world, National Semiconductor Corp last week announced the DP8500. A high-speed, programmable processor for bit-mapped graphics systems, the part joins the company’s Advanced Graphics Chip Set family of building blocks. The 20MHz CMOS chip is claimed to lead to a dramatic boost to the rendering speed of graphics operations and also controls video refresh functions. It will be out in production volumes in the third quarter; no prices were supplied.
