National Semiconductor Corp and Hitachi Ltd have decided to avoid the nastiness of litigation over chip patents and have agreed a patent portfolio cross-licensing pactcovering all semiconductor products designed by either company: the agreement runs for 10 years and includes patents for products and technologies developed during that time frame, as well as those that have already been developed – in NatSemi’s case, over 1,600 patents.
