Building on the introduction of its NAS*Net and NAS*Link IBM MVS to-DEC VAX/VMS Cross System interconnection products (CI No 829), National Advanced Systems, has signed a joint marketing deal with Interlink Computer Sciences Inc, in which it holds a minority stake. It produced its existing Cross System products via a joint development venture with Fremont, California-based Interlink, and under terms of the agreement, both parties will market a MicroVAX card, based on Interlink’s 3732 Model 450 Network Controller software. This in turn hooks on to a standard block multiplexer channel, to provide access to IBM/MVS mainframes. National Advanced’s Engineering and Scientific marketing chief Brian Walsh says the Interlink product meets a number of user specifications. Chief of these are faster data transfer speeds – up to 1Mbps from 700Kbps – and 256 logical links; NAS*Link offers a maximum of 128. In addition, the product provides dual host and dual networking capabilities, and enables DEC users to exploit the cheaper and greater storage offered on 370 mainframes. The existing customer base has already been upgraded to the Interlink product at no charge; the price to new users is about $20,000.
