NATIONAL ADVANCED HAS HITACHI REPLY TO IBM 3880s

NatSemi’s National Advanced Systems has unveiled the Hitachi answer to IBM’s new 7.5Gb 3380 disk drives and 3890 controller. NAS has announced 7380 AK and BK drives storing 7.5Gb apiece, 7380 AJ and BJ storing 2.5Gb, field upgradable to the K. Both feature Quad Port to give four data paths per drive. The 7890 controller family comes in three models, the top 3C with ad-vanced function cache controller with 4.5Mbytes-per-second data rate and quad porting. The new disks – and upgrades to the 7880 controller to support them, will be available in third quarter 1988, the new 7890 controllers are second half 1989.
