Los Angeles-based Nantucket Corp has launched Matt Whelan’s Compiler Kit – dBase IV Edition, claiming it to be the first product to offer the capability to compile dBase IV local network applications: it consists of a pre-preprocessor that scans a dBase IV program and constructs a batch file to compile and link with Clipper 5.0 to yield a distributable, executable file; a custom header file that contains dBase IV command definitions and instructions for compiling them; and a user-defined function library that supplements Clipper’s standard functions, to mimic dBase IV behaviour; a dBase IV database driver provides dBase IV-compatible file handling and the original dBase IV program is not directly executed to compile their programs, users only have to type compile (program name) from the MSDOS prompt and the batch file created will perform and complete all necessary compiling and linking procedures; Matt Whelan’s Compiler Kit was developed in Sydney, Australia by Matt Whelan and is being marketed by Nantucket; it is being distributed with Clipper 5.0 for $1,190, or $400 for Whelan alone to Clipper developers.
