MySpace takes a bite out of Apple

MySpace has started allowing unsigned bands to sell their music directly to fans on its social networking website. Unlike Apple's iTunes songs, those located on MySpace don't feature digital rights management technology, which means they can be played on any device.

MySpace is one of the most visited websites on the internet and features roughly three million bands and over 100 million members. Currently, users can listen to four songs per MySpace band but these cannot be downloaded.

Chris DeWolfe, MySpace chief executive, told USA Today, We’re the biggest music site now. Converting to the biggest music store would be a natural progression.
