Mylex Corp has won a series of OEM deals for its eXtreme RAID 1100 PCI RAID controllers from vendors of mid-range and high-end network servers. They are Acer America Corp, Data General Corp, Fujitsu Ltd (in Japan and Europe), Hitachi America Ltd, Intergraph Corp, Micron Electronics Inc, NEC America Inc, Packard Bell NEC Europe and Siemens AG.

Fremont, California-based Mylex claims that its controller eliminates the I/O bottleneck that occurs along the data path between the disk drives and the server, and has helped several of the top PC server vendors to win TPC-C and TPC-D benchmarking awards. It uses Mylex firmware, a 233 MHz StrongARM processor, 64-bit PCI bus and multiple Ultra2 SCSI LVD buses. The controller delivers performance above 8,000 I/Os per second, says Mylex, which it compares to typical controller performance of around 2,500 I/Os per second. It comes in two or three channel configurations and supports Windows NT, Linux, Novell Netware and SCO Unix. Mylex also sells through distributors, resellers and system integrators. Prices start at around $1,900.
