Media Vision Technology Inc, Fremont, California did have some pretty hot news to impart, saying that it intends to enter the market for television set-top multimedia players, challenging the likes of 3DO Co with its Interactive Multiplayer: vice-president of strategic marketing and development Satish Gupta told Dow Jones & Co that Media Vision expects to introduce a machine in late 1994 or early 1995 that connects to televisions and plays CD-ROM disks developed for Windows personal computers – and is aiming at the $300 to $400 price bracket; Gupta adds that Media Vision hopes to avoid the shortage of software said to have hampered sales of the Multiplayer machine this Christmas season – where 3DO had to get titles developed from scratch, the future Media Vision machine will have access to hundreds of titles at launch; the first systems will play only CD-ROM titles, but its future set-top boxes will hook to cable systems as well.
