However much people like the feel and convenience of paper, there is little doubt that the future of news delivery is electronic and not in hard copy form, and Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp does not intend to be left behind when the revolution comes. The company said in New York that it is forming a new division that will make its publications available electronically for delivery to hand-held personal computers. The News Electronic Data division told the Wall Street Journal that publications planned to go electronic include The Times here in London, TV Guide and even personal ads, and that the new unit will be ready to go in 18 months to two years. The target machines are the personal communication devices planned by the likes of Apple Computer Inc that will combine personal computer and cellular telephony.
