Multi-Tech Systems has introduced new MultiConnect AW Analog-to-Wireless Converter. The company claimed that the new offering is a product suited for the devices with built-in analogue modems to be deployed in M2M (machine-to-machine) applications.

According to the company, the existing device’s RJ-11 cable plugs into the new offering, then a few configuration commands are entered through the RS-232 serial port. By emulating the traditional dial-up PSTN network and using integrated or external cellular modems, the new offering can connect to packet-switched or circuit-switched data networks and allows PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol) pass-through.

The new offering is reportedly developed for legacy devices used in M2M applications, including ATMs, home healthcare monitors, security systems, credit card/POS terminals, kiosks, industrial automation and utilities devices.

The company said that two models are available, both integrating a Multi-Tech V.34/33.6K SocketModem analogue modem and SLIC (Subscriber Line Interface Card) for PSTN connection.

In addition, one model integrates a SocketModem embedded cellular modem supporting global deployments on any GSM/GPRS network, while a separate model has an RS-232 serial port for connection to an external Multi-Tech CDMA modem.

Bill Chesney, vice president of sales and marketing at Multi-Tech, said: Manufacturers can extend the lives of their devices that rely on analogue connections by simply incorporating a MultiConnect AW Analog-to-Wireless Converter.

It seamlessly integrates with legacy devices, allowing them to connect to a cellular network without requiring costly and time-consuming changes to existing hardware or applications.
