MTT GETS FCC PIONEER ALLOCATED CHANNEL

By CBR Staff Writer

Jackson, Mississippi-based Mobile Telecommunication Technologies Corp has been granted the first and final Pioneer’s Preference by the US Federal Communications Commission for a two-way Personal Communications System in the US: the Commission has allocated 11 channels for nationwide Personal Communications System use, and has assigned one of the nationwide channels to Mobile Telecom, which plans to file a formal licence application for authority to construct the system as soon as permitted by Commission rules – the company gets privileged use of 50KHz of radio spectrum in the 930MHz band to build a two-way Nationwide Wireless Network that will enable people to send and receive wireless messages using laptops, palmtops and personal digital assistants, and will also use acknowledgement messagers, or pocket-sized devices capable of returning confirmations of receipts.
