MTI Technology Corp has won a US patent for new dual-ported staging memory technology that it claims improves RAID storage system performance between host computers and storage subsystems. Dual-ported staging memory creates multiple data channels for system data communications. Typically, the host system transfers information to temporary staging or buffering memory, and the RAID processor then has to calculate parity through the same memory port prior to writing the data and parity to the disk drives. MTI’s new technology de-couples this operation from a single port to a dual port. MTI says it will use the technology in future releases of its Gladiator RAID storage system. Anaheim, California-based MTI says it now holds 37 patents for storage technology it has filed since 1990.
