Microsoft Corp is to use San Diego-based ComStream Corp’s digital satellite receiver transmission technology as part of its effort to get satellite programming delivered to personal computers. ComStream has an add-on card for personal computers that uses the same technology found in its digital satellite television receiver boxes. The technology will enable desktop systems to receive television programming along with multimedia and high speed data from Direct Broadcast Satellite service providers. Microsoft has been working with key companies in the personal computer, consumer electronics and broadcast industries, as part of the Simply Interactive PC initiative (CI No 3,091).
