A report on CNetNews.com says that from November 14, 2006 onwards, customers will be redirected to either the Zune Marketplace website or to RealNetworks’ Rhapsody site.

The MSN Music store was opened in September 2004, offering songs that could be played on a variety of Windows Media compatible devices.

With the forthcoming launch of Microsoft’s Zune player, its iPod rival, Microsoft is adopting one of Apple’s key strategies to control both the music service and music player.

MSN Music says that people who have already bought Windows Media files will be able to use their songs by transferring them to compatible players and burning them onto cd.
