Leading UK broadband cable operator, Telewest, announced today that Marks and Spencer is joining the consortium of retailers who sell products via its Active Digital interactive services platform.

Initially launching with 100-200 products from the fashion & sportswear, home, gift and flower ranges, M&S plans to offer all in-store products over digital channels or the Internet by summer 2001. Marks & Spencer will be working with Telewest to develop their offerings over the next year.

Chris Townsend, Telewest’s Director of e-commerce and Interactive Services said: M&S is an example of the changing face of retailing in the UK. It is one of many leading companies committing to its future with digital interactive TV. Customers are no longer afraid of buying goods in different ways and this means companies have to keep up with their changing shopping patterns.

The store joins over 120 leading brands, on Telewest’s Active Digital platform, including Interflora, Norwich Union, Abbey National, Thomas Cook, Woolworths, Cartoon Network and BBC.

The three-year agreement with three-year renewal option strongly positions M&S as a multi-channel retailer.
