Microsoft Corp unveiled the SQL Server versions for the Alpha AXP and R-series RISCs running Windows NT at $8,000 for 68 users and 128 connections: it also introduced SQL Bridge for NT, a protocol gateway that connects client-server systems to Unix systems running Sybase, so that clients and servers can communicate across dissimilar networks without having to use host-based protocols on desktop computers; and a new Database Transfer Utility provides a one-step operation for migrating databases from other systems, such as Unix or NetWare, to Windows NT-based servers; SQL Bridge is $2,500 per server for an unlimited amount of users, and the Database Transfer Utility is included with Microsoft SQL Server; the products will ship next month.
