Mpact Immedia Inc, the Montreal, Canada-based electronic commerce specialist, will change its name to BCE Emergis Inc if shareholders agree to the change at a meeting set for January 21. The change reflects the 65% controlling stake Bell Canada Ltd took in the company back in August (CI No 3,467). Bell is merging Mpact with its Bell Emergis Electronic Business Solutions unit. Bell wants to leverage its e-commerce expertise across the BCE group of companies, and already has BCE Emergis working with both its Tele-Direct telephone directory publishing unit and the new, as yet unnamed national broadband and IP company, set to be launched in January, 1999.
