Open source browser organisation Mozilla has released the first beta of Thunderbird 5, its email messaging client.
Developed by Mozilla Messaging, the beta has several new features, including bug fixes.
It said that the new release has a new addons manager and extension management API.
Other features include: reordering tabs and dragging them to different windows; a revised account creation wizard; display of attachment sizes along with attachments; and new troubleshooting information page to aid supporting and diagnosing problems in Thunderbird.
Mozilla added that plugins can now be loaded in RSS feeds by default in the tool and it will support Mac 32/64 bit Universal builds.
The beta will support Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.5 and Mac OS X 10.6.
Mozilla has said that extensions installed under previous versions of Thunderbird may be incompatible and/or require updates to work with Thunderbird Beta.
