Firefox has released Firefox 4 Beta 12 which it claims will be the final beta client before the browser is released for real.
Available for Linux, Mac and Windows, Firefox 4 beta 12 offers numerous improvements to the browser’s general stability, performance and compatibility, Mozilla says.
The nonprofit foundation Mozilla claims the new version delivers improved performance when watching online videos or graphics. It also provides better compatibility for add-ons.
Mozilla said, "We are working closely with the community of add-on developers to ensure their Firefox add-ons are ready to customize the features, look and functionality of Firefox 4 Beta."
"We are in the final stages of the Firefox 4 Beta cycle."
Since the first beta release of Firefox 4, Mozilla has fixed more than 7,000 bugs in the open source Web browser software.
Firefox 4 has faced many delays in its development cycle because of bugs and changes such as "Do not track" features, with more beta versions than originally expected.
Mozilla had to delay the release of Firefox 4 beta 12 which was originally slated for a November 2010 release.
Mozilla faces pressure from other top browsers, with Google releasing the latest version of Chrome on 3 February and Microsoft expected to release Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) in mid-March.
Last month, Mozilla had criticised IE9 saying it was not a truly modern browser, which Microsoft was quick to rebuff.
According to Web metrics company Net Applications, Firefox currently accounts for 22.8% of all browsers in use.
