Dallas-based Mountain Network Solutions Inc has come up a set of software-based data management tools for peer-to-peer communications across personal computers running different operating systems – MS-DOS, OS/2, NetWare 286 and 386 and Microsoft LAN Manager 2.0 and Apple Macintoshes. Mountain also claims to offer some added data protection with the system which can be used on single-user workstations and network servers. Filetalk 2.0 will also form the platform for future data management software products. These include the Data Catalog, which is responsible for grooming files from primary storage, archiving them to less expensive secondary storage and cataloguing dhe location of those archived files. A system for tracking user ownership will be provided. FileSafe 6.0 provides the visual data management tools, enabling single users and local area network administrators to define their view of their hard disk, file servers and network resources in a pictorial manner.
