MOTOROLA’S SCOTTISH PLANT BUYS MENTOR GRAPHICS’ ELECTRONIC DESIGN AUTOMATION SYSTEMS

Motorola Inc’s Scottish manufacturing plant in East Kilbride has bought eight electronic design automation systems from Mentor Graphics Ltd, Bracknell, Berkshire, which includes four Ideastations for structured logic and circuit design of 8-bit microcontrollers, and four Chipstations for integrated circuit design for the development of VLSI and ULSI components. Alsys Ltd, Waltham, Massachusetts, the company headed by principal designer of the Ada language Dr Jean Ichbiah, has enhanced its 68000 version 4 Ada cross compiler to run on Sun Microsystems, Apollo Computer, HP9000, VAX/VMS, IBM PS/2 and AT alike machines: according to Martyn Jordan, marketing director of Alsys UK, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, the company has substantial orders for the 68000 cross compiler, and has supplied Sun-based versions to the French and Belgian armies, the French navy, Thomson SA in France, and GEC-Marconi Ltd over here in the UK.
