Motorola Inc’s Mansfield, Massachusetts-based Network Systems Division has announced the 6520 Office Router Series of multiprotocol routers. The range is optimised for small branch offices wanting to integrate legacy serial traffic with local area network traffic over dedicated point-to-point, multipoint, X.25 and Frame Relay links, says the company. According to Motorola, all 6520 Office Routers include one local area network interface, two wide area network interfaces, and one interface for local configuration and control that can also support asynchronous traffic. Also included is software support for Internet Protocol/Internet Packet Exchange, Transparent and Source Route Bridging, Frame Relay, X.25, SNA/SDLC and a suite of more than 30 protocols providing connection capabilities, says the company. All models are said to have at least 3Mb of Flash memory and support for TFTP, Trivial File Transfer Protocol. With the AT bus architecture, any 6520 Office Router can support an optional 56Kbps data service unit or an Ethernet 10BaseT hub board, says the firm. The Motorola 6520 Office Router series will ship next quarter, with Release 4.1 software on the 6520 Ethernet Office Router and the 6520 Token Ring Office Router, priced at $3,750 and $4,150 inclusive of software.
