OK so why did Motorola Inc choose the name Iridium for its planned satellite cellular telephone network that will mean that even when you travel to the uttermost parts of the earth, your office – and that wretched insurance salesman – will still be able to reach you? It needs 77 satellites to provide global coverage and 77 is the atomic number of the element Iridium.
