Within the agreement Zhejiang Mobile will purchase Motorola GTSS’s Horizonmacro digital base stations through Eastcom in order to provide extra capacity and increase coverage of the Motorola-supplied network throughout Zhejiang Province during 2001-2002.

The initiation of the rollout is to begin soon and expected to be completed by mid-2002, ultimately increasing the network capacity to to about 3.9 million subscribers from 1.5 million.

Motorola and Zhejiang Mobile first collaborated in the early 1990s when Motorola supplied its TACS system and then its GSM system in mid- 1990s.

With 4.76 million mobile subscribers, Zhejiang is China’s second largest mobile communication market and Motorola is pleased to further strengthen our market leadership in China through this major cooperation with Zhejiang Mobile, said Ruey Bin Kao, Motorola vice president and general manager of the China Telecom Carrier Solutions Group in a press statement.
