Motorola Inc’s RISC Software has launched its C/C++ and Fortran Software Development Kits for the Power Macintosh. The company says that the kit is fully compatible with Apple’s MPW Macintosh Programmers’ Workshop, and enables developers to optimise code s imultaneously for members of the PowerPC 601, PowerPC 603, PowerPC 604 and PowerPC 620 families, while maintaining compatibility. Take the claim about optimising for the 620 with a pinch of salt, however – optimising for that chip would entail producing 64-bit code, which wouldn’t run on the other members. The software kits are available for an initial list price of $350. The package includes the C/C++ or Fortran software developer’s kit and Apple’s Programmers Workshop. In addition, registered users will receive the next two updates to the kit free of charge.
