Motorola Inc and NewsPager Corporation of America have joined forces to introduce Inflo, a new information receiver that expands the conventional limits of paging. Operating on a protocol that Motorola is licensing from NewsPager, Inflo gives business professionals an alphanumeric pager that also operates as an information receiver to keep them continuously updated 24 hours a day with information services including major news events, stock reports, commodity prices and sports scores. It can receive up to 20 different information services that NewsPager offers and be programmed to alert the user when a specific item from any database may be of interest to them. Information can also be uploaded to a personal computer through the unit’s intelligent serial port. It has 120,000 characters of memory. Motorola manufactures the pager under licence from NewsPager. It measures 3.25 by 2.25, is less than one inch thick and weighs 4.11 ounces. It will be out in late September for $400.
