Motorola and Mada Communications have announced the commercial launch of an end-to-end 802.16e-based WiMAX network in Jordan.

The network is expected to enable Mada Communications to offer wireless broadband services, including voice and high-speed data, to customers and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) across the region.

Initially, wireless internet subscribers in Amman, Irbid, Zaraq are expected to have access to an enhanced level of wireless broadband service, while Mada Communications expands its 4G wireless network to the rest of the country, said Motorola.

Motorola supplied equipment from its WiMAX portfolio including WiMAX access points (WAP 400 and WAP 800) as well as indoor and outdoor customer premises equipment and portable plug-in devices such as the indoor CPEi 750, WiFi-enabled CPEi775, outdoor CPEo 400, and USBw 100, a USB plug-in device. Motorola also integrated its WiMAX Access Service Network (ASN) Gateway, which connects the WiMAX radio access network to a common IP core.
