Motorola Japan has released the first truly portable commercial multi-channel access radio telephone in Japan: the MIB3500 device has dimensions of 2.6 by 1.4 by 7 and weighs 1 lb 7 oz: the output signal is 2 Watts, with acoustic output of 0.5 Watts, and batteries have an eight-hour life; Motorola Japan designed the unit, which was then manufactured in Singapore, and the batteries are made in Malaysia; almost all multi-channel access phones used in Japan up until now were car units; Motorola is planning to sell around 3,000 of the things in year one to security companies, event promotors and salesmen.
