Motorola Inc has a $2.3m agreement to sell its Unix-based Delta Series computers to Holland America Line: the multi-user computer systems will be installed on board four cruise ships, and the Seattle-based company will use the Delta Series 3000s to record passenger purchases via its onboard point-of-sale terminals, to track inventory onship and at headquarters, and to support applications development and purchasing activities; the agreement was signed with Motorola’s Commercial Systems Division and the systems, to be installed by March, will be networked to point-of-sale terminals and printers; each ship will be equipped with two Model 3840 computers, and Motorola will put an extra computer on each ship on a loan basis for back up; Holland America has also purchased two Delta Series Model 3640 computers, which have been installed at Seattle for applications development and corporate purchasing; all of the company’s applications are based on an Oracle Corp database.
