Rich Nottenburg, the company’s current strategy chief, will be the new chief technology officer, while the current chief operating officer Greg Brown would be Mr Zander’s successor from on Jan 1 2008.

Ms Warrior served as an executive vice president and chief technology officer since 2005. Prior to this, she served as a senior vice president and chief technology officer from 2003-2005. She also worked at Thoughtbeam, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Motorola, as vice president and general manager from 2001-2002.

According to Motorola, Ms Warrior was responsible to for its $4.1 billion research and development investment and 26,000 engineers.

Motorola has been losing market share to rivals such as Nokia and Samsung and posted two quarterly losses this year. It has also been criticized for failing to come up with a strong follow-up to its flagship Razr phone, which was launched in late 2004.

The company’s chief financial officer and the head of its mobile device business left earlier this year.
