MOTOROLA CLAIMS WORLD’s FASTEST STATIC RAMS

By CBR Staff Writer

Motorola Inc’s Microprocessor and Memory Technologies Group claims to have the fastest fastest static random access memory chips in the industry and is currently shipping samples. Its Fast Static RAM Division has three new 1M-bit statics with access times as low as 8nS and two new 256K-bit devices with 6nS access times. All five will be qualified and in production by the first quarter of 1994. The 1M samples include the 128K by 8-bit MCM6726A, 256K by 4 bit MCM6728A, and 256K by 4 bit MCM6729A with output enable. The 256Ks are the 32K by 8 bit MCM6706R and 64K by 4 bit MCM6709R. Both 256Ks have revolutionary pin-outs with centre power and ground pairs and have output enable, a feature that provides increased system flexibility and eliminates bus contention problems. The 32 by 8 and 64K by 4 256K parts are each $7.88 for 6nS, $40 for 7nS and $30.80 for 8nS for 1,000-up. The 8nS 1Ms each cost $234 when you order 1,000 or more.
