Under the terms of the contracts, Motorola will expand China Mobile’s GSM 900 network in Beijing and Sichuan. The expansion projects, scheduled for completion in Q3 2002 will increase operator’s network capacity by 1.5 million subscribers.
In addition to the GSM network expansion, Motorola will also install Packet Control Units (PCU) and Operation and Maintenance Centers-Radio to expand China Mobile’s GPRS network in Beijing. The expansion will increase the GPRS coverage within the Fourth Ring Road of Beijing. The GPRS commercial service launch is penned in for next year. Motorola supplied the original GPRS core network to Beijing last year.
With these two contracts, Motorola has received infrastructure contracts totaling $1.44 billion with Chinese mobile operators during 2001.
