Motorola is to provide 800 MHz Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) network infrastructure in a total of 11 areas including the capital of Beijing.

The other areas that Motorola will provide infrastructure to are in Guangdong, Jiangsu, Fujian, Hebei, Jilin, Shanxi, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Xinjiang and Gansu.

The initial rollout of the infrastructure including SC4812T base stations will begin in July followed by full commercial services to be available in the fourth quarter of 2001.

The CDMA infrastructure, that we will be installing, lays the groundwork for China Unicom’s plan to migrate to cdma2000 1x networks in 2002, said Simon Leung, corporate vice president of Motorola and general manager of GTSS’s Asia-Pacific Region.
