Motorola Inc has signed a memorandum of understanding to form a venture with Grupo Protexa SA of Monterrey, Mexico to pursue major telecommunications projects starting with a cellular telephone system in Northern Mexico that will link Protexa and Motorola franchises: Protexa values the venture’s long-term investment at $6,000m but Motorola could not confirm that figure; the new company will invest $1,500m with the aim of offering all types of telecommunications services, including long distance, wireless and speech and data transmission always supposing it wins licences; Protexa was founded back in 1945, and it has interests in construction and tourism in Mexico.
