The Vecomp announcement was made in Peking, alongside news that Motorola Inc and Apple Computer Inc will join with Chinese hardware and software companies to develop markets for the PowerPC in China. As already reported, Motorola’s Nanjing Power Computing Ltd venture with Panda Electronics Group will start production of PowerPC desktop systems running Mac OS later this year. They intend to go after the Chinese education market as well as the consumer sector, and Apple plans to work with the National Center for Audio-Visual Education to create multimedia- heavy text, clip-art, video and music, for use in teaching a wide range of subjects, including social sciences, languages, mathematics and Chinese culture. It is also working with Chinese universities that specialize in training teachers.
