Motorola Mobility Holdings has reported a 28% increase in revenue to $3.3bn in the second quarter of this year, higher than Wall Street’s expected $3.12bn.
The company has attributed the increase in revenues to the launch of several new smartphones in the US and markets worldwide, including revenues growth of over 40% largely by its Android device sales in Latin America and China, where sales more than doubled.
During the quarter, Motorola Mobility shipped a total of 11 million mobile devices, including 4.4 million smartphones and 440,000 Motorola XOOM tablets, an increase compared to 8.3 million mobile devices, including 2.7 million smartphones in the second quarter of 2010.
Mobile devices business revenues were up 41% to $2.4bn, while home segment revenues in the second quarter were up 2% to $907m compared with the year-ago quarter.
Motorola Mobility expanded Motorola DROID family at Verizon Wireless with the introduction of Droid X2 and Droid3 and also revealed a number of important handsets during the quarter.
The company has revealed plans to launch ten devices this year with Sprint, including Motorola Photon 4G, Sprint’s first international smartphone, Motorola XPRT smartphone, the Motorola TITANIUM smartphone featuring iDEN technology, and Motorola TRIUMPH, smartphone for prepaid customers on Virgin Mobile USA.
Motorola Mobility forecasts a profit of up to 10 cents per share in the third quarter and 48 to 60 cents per share for the entire 2011 year.
