The joint venture between Motorola Inc and Wilsonville, Oregon-based In Focus Systems Inc on flat panels seems to have run into trouble (CI No 2,521): In Focus says that the venture, Motif Inc, is to restructure operations, cutting 43 of the 65 employees in order to provide greater focus on the development of its core Active Addressing technology; as a result of this restructuring, it plans to shut down its liquid crystal display manufacturing operation in Wilsonville, resulting in a one-time restructuring charge of $6.4m or $0.55 a share that In Focus must take; Motorola will have a face similar charge.
