MORE TO THE GALLON FOR NEC SOFTWARE

By CBR Staff Writer

NEC Corp, vendor of MIPS Technologies Inc RISC-based workstations, wants to get more mileage out of its software, and says that applications developed for its 4800 series workstations are to be converted for other manufacturers’ and arch-rivals’ machines: it will start by converting a screen formatter package called Yuzu II, developed for the NEC EWS 4800, for Sun Microsystems Inc hardware; NEC is planning to charge the same $7,430 price for the software on Sun as on the 4800, and it hopes to sell 500 copies in year one.
