The jury is still out on the safety of mobile phones and base station masts, despite previous research. There has also been conflicting advice about the protection offered by ‘hands free’ accessories.

The Steward Inquiry, launched two years ago, found no evidence that mobile phones were a health hazard or that they could cause brain or nervous system cancers. However, it concluded that subtle biological changes could be caused by radiation from handsets and base station masts. The inquiry recommended a precautionary approach.
