The story goes that Tommy James and his songwriting partner were racking their brains for a snappy girl’s name for a new song they were writing when one of them looked out of their Manhatten window and saw a neon sign flashing MONY – and so was born Mony Mony, a hit second time around for Billy Idol the other month: MONY actually stands for Mutual Of New York, and MONY Financial Services, Syracuse, New York claims that it has the life insurance industry’s first comprehensive underwriting and policy system based on artificial intelligence; Comprehensive Life Underwriting Expert System or Clues is fully integrated with its traditional mainframe-based administrative systems, and is expects it to revolutionise the underwriting process for life insurance requests, cutting the time for giving decisions to as little as three hours.
