With NexGen Microsystems Inc already in the market with its Pentium-killer, all eyes are on Cyrix Corp to see whether the Richardson upstart, which numbers IBM Corp and SGS Thomson Microelectronics NV among its manufacturing partners, can come up with a convincing alternative to the Pentium: president and chief executive Jerry Rogers rolled up to say I wish the M1 were in production today but it will be in the spotlight in the industry soon, adding that the part will be announced by the end of this year but will now reach volume production until the end of 1995; Rogers also told attendees Cyrix has enough capacity to compete with the best in the marketplace.
