Oakland, California company Montage Software Inc has announced version 2.0 of its Montage Server object-oriented database, with new versions for Digital Equipment Corp Alpha AXP and Silicon Graphics Inc systems. Version 2.0 can support up to 16m tables, has enhanced searching, provides for custom management of large objects and has an optimised query system. It is priced from $2,000 for Solaris, SunOS, Alpha and Silicon Graphics systems from the end of this month. New add-in modules are DataBlade, claimed to enable the database to identify data types and accommodate new ones, and 3D Spatial DataBlade which supports three-dimensional data types. They make Binary Large Objects obsolete, claims Montage. Prices start at $400 and $1,000 respectively from the third quarter.
