As well as celebrating that UK Army pact (see front), Northern Telecom Ltd has won two monster contracts, sharing $1,000m between now and 1997 from Pacific Telesis Group Inc’s Pacific Bell unit with AT&T Co for new digital switches and related equipment, and $270m from Nippon Telegraph & Telephone Corp for DMS-10 equipment developed and made in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina; under the Pacific Bell contract, Northern Telecom will supply 4m lines of DMS 100 and AT&T will supply 5.1m lines of its Number 5ESS exchange; the Japanese contract extends to 1995 a previous $250m pact signed in 1986 which involved some 400 DMS-10 exchanges, and the Canadian company says the pact will double its base in Japan.
