The secret is never to retire a machine until it dies, simply pass it on to the next person in line, for whom an old XT will be quite good enough, and to buy all the things that don’t matter, such as desks and filing cabinets, second or third hand, and then you can gulp and just about manage the things that do matter) – and were thrilled when Apple Computer Inc said it had this hot new 17 colour monitor for only #689 and that we could have it in 10 days: had to be too good to be true, Apple is snowed under with orders and the delivery date keeps going back and it’s now mid-July.
