Mondex USA, the subsidiary of the electronic cash technology company controlled by MasterCard International Inc, is now part of Microsoft Corp’s ActiveStore framework, which is a collection of software that Microsoft considers to best of breed, and Mondex is the only electronic cash system in ActiveStore at the moment. The company also says its ReadiMondex software developer’s kit will now be available to early adopters in December. However, in a similar announcement at the end of April Mondex said it would be ready to them by now, so something’s not quite right. It still insists it will be available to everybody early next year however, so retailers can develop their own Mondex applications on for use on Win32 platforms. Mondex USA chief executive Janet Otsuki said the SDK replaces the six notebooks of specification retailers were given before, which perhaps explains the lack of take-up of the Mondex technology thus far. And judging by the almost complete lack of interest on the call, the Mondex message is still struggling to be heard at the moment.
