The Finnish electronics wholesalers’ organization has reported that sales to retailers fell year-on-year by almost 54 percent for manufacturers including Nokia, Motorola and Ericsson.

An explanaition for this current trend has been offered by Pentti Karhu, chief executive of the wholesalers’ organization, who believes that the Finns are cautiously waiting for the feedback from launch of General Packet Radio Service (GPRS), which allows for quick Internet access. The other factor, which is perhaps a cause for greater concern, is the slowing economic condition.

On the global front, phone sales are predicted to remain similar, or slightly decrease to that of last year, with 400 million handsets sold.
